Reactive

BHP Billiton is Australia’s largest company, and the world's largest diversified resources company. Based on a number of successful projects undertaken since Reactive’s design of the BHP Web site, Reactive were selected to design BHP’s Global Intranet Portal – the central company information access point for all BHP staff.

Strategy

Working with another vendor responsible for providing the Intranet Portal technology Reactive were required to create a design that was both user friendly and compliant with the technical requirements of the Portal system.

To ensure that both goals were met Reactive consulted regularly throughout the project with BHP staff and representatives of the technology vendor to review the designs and ensure they addressed both of these requirements.

The Solution

Reactive created screen designs for more than ten key Portal screens with the focus of the designs on ensuring usability of the Portal the widest possible range of BHP staff. The design concept itself was based on the BHP brand guidelines but was designed to be flexible enough for individual BHP departments to include their own brand elements.

The screen designs included a number of elements that allowed users to customise their Portal experience including Flash widgets for global time and weather and expanding/collapsing page elements to save on screen real estate for those with lower resolution monitors.

At the conclusion of the design phase Reactive provided CSS/HTML templates for all screens to BHP’s internal development team for integration with the Portal technology.
