The National Gallery of Victoria engaged Reactive after a very competitive pitch process to assist them with creating a sophisticated design system, information architecture and creative design for the new NGV Web site.
Reactive consulted on and creatively led all aspects of the creative approach and worked to ensure that the creative vision was fully realised through the development of complex front end templates, CSS and html that supported and enhanced the design.
Reactive's involvement in the project included information architecture, design leadership and consulting, finished artwork and Front End Development. The new NGV Web site employs a design system in response to the unique requirements of presenting un-cropped artwork and a variety of different content formats.
The layout is divided into seven even columns and uses a variety of different multiples to establish scale and visual hierarchy. Content within each column is constrained to a fixed width but is left to display at any height it needs to creating a variety of unexpected vertical compositions throughout the user experience.
Certain areas of the site have been meticulously considered to capitalise on different user behaviours (in particular the "What's On area") and a variety of different layout templates are available to the client to use at their discretion.
